THIS RARE MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA AVAILABLE HERE: https://find-rare-jazz-rock-fusion-mu... This is THE earliest live recording of the Mahavishnu Orchestra known to exist. According to internet sources -- this was their 7th live performance. Most live recordings in existence are from the 72-73 years. The set list is interesting -- as despite this being such an early performance, it features a couple of tracks that weren't released until the second album. Track 3 is called "Dream", yet it sounds like it is an embryonic version of the actual live "Dream" recording released several years later. IMHO, that later live recording in its earliest vinyl version sounded awful to me -- just a wall of a sound. I assume by now that Between Nothingness & Eternity has been properly remastered. I de-noised the show as best as possible but you can still hear a background hissing and low level distortion -- sorry about that. I excised excess blurbage & radio commercials at the end, EQ'd the recording to add more low end and a touch more high end. I also increased volume in some drop-outs as well as raised volume in the quieter sections that were very hard to hear. So this version I have uploaded to YouTube, is THE best recording you can find & experience for free anywhere. There are some excerpts on YouTube of this show but the audio is really subpar. I like my uploads to make you feel like you are in a front row seat! Enjoy! The Mahavishnu Orchestra totally rewired my neurons. No other band ever did that for me. I started playing guitar becuz of Hendrix but John McLaughlin was light years beyond any guitarist in his hey-day. The thing that hit me today was John M was trying to communicate something very radically new. It was spiritual, a religious thing for him -- an outlet for his New faith. He was quoted as saying, "God plays through me." (In essence, John McLaughlin's quote "God plays through me" encapsulates his belief that music is a spiritual practice, and that through surrendering to the creative process, one can become a conduit for a higher force, allowing the divine to express itself through his music.) That one thing made the compositions unique, powerful and deeply moving. Miles told John to play "outside" the music. Then Miles said create your own band. It's time for you to leave. Miles talked John up really big to Columbia and they took a gamble on John's bizarre sound. The world has never been the same. It reminds me of moment I first heard Holdsworth with U.K. and then Bruford -- a huge leap for jazz rock. Holdsworth was unearthly good like nobody else. McLaughlin & Holdsworth -- trailblazers. I need to stop. I could go on for hours. Ya know what I mean?😄 Any opinions, more to share? Lemme know.
