Hand Coloring a Black and White Photo with Watercolors - Fall Leaves - Deckled Edges
My daughter Kate again joins me in this video where I am hand coloring a black and white photo with water colors. The photo was printed using black and gray inks only on watercolor paper. We also added deckled edges to the photo before we colored it. We just came back from a trip to northern Georgia where the colors of the tree leaves started to change. I turned the original color photo black and white but we didn't really follow the original colors in coloring it. We still added a blue sky but the leaves - originally all red - were colored a variety of warm colors: yellows, oranges, reds and browns. Leaves in the far background were colored green. The photo was printed with my Epson P20000 on 11x15" Strathmore watercolor paper at 10x14", but by adding the deckled edges we tore off a bit more paper. Hand coloring black and white photos is an old technique from the early days of photography (also called hand tinting black and white photographs). I have hand colored many b&w photos with oils, acrylics and pastels and this is the first one done with watercolor paint. 5:01 Adding the deckled edges 10:25 Showing the supplies for hand coloring 13:20 Starting with the sky 20:04 Starting with some green leaves 24:56 Adding the first red leaf 54:58 Showing the final result This piece float-framed in barn wood in my Etsy shop: https://etsy.me/3oekN3o You can also find me on: Facebook: http://bit.ly/2OzEdyo Instagram: @roy_kerckhoffs_art Website: https://www.roykart.com where you can also sign up for my monthly news letter Subscribe to my channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/RoyKerckhof...
