Thank you to Professor Albert Ondo Ossa for visiting Gandal today. Professor Albert Ondo Ossa served as a minister several times under President Omar Bongo. He was successively Minister of National Education and Higher Education in 2006, Minister of Higher Education and Research in 2007, and Minister of Scientific Research and Technological Development in 2008. Professor Albert Ondo Ossa is a candidate in the 2023 presidential election and an active member of the "Alternance 2023" (A23) coalition, alongside other opposition candidates. After discussions within the coalition, he was chosen as the main opposition candidate to run against Ali Bongo. The official election results declared Ali Bongo the winner with 64% of the vote. These results were contested by the opposition, and Professor Albert Ondo Ossa maintains that he won the election. Ali Bongo was overthrown in a military coup shortly after Brice Oligui Nguema announced the election results. Professor Albert Ondo Ossa called on the junta of the Committee for the Transition and the Restoration of Institutions and the new head of state, Brice Oligui Nguema, to respect the election results and allow him to become president. Professor Albert Ondo Ossa currently lives in exile in France.
