🤖 PyBrain AI Discord   / discord   Hello, this is PyBrain, the AI robotics development channel! 🧠 In the last episode, we delivered our automated packing robot, Packr (Py PACKR), to a KOSDAQ-listed company's logistics warehouse in Pohang. But Packr had one critical limitation: a human still had to load the products onto it by hand. Enter the mobile manipulator that solves this final piece of the puzzle — PICKR (Py PICKR) Development Diary EP.2 begins! 🚀 ✅ AMR + FR5 cobot: a mobile robot that carries 80kg We first tried mounting a dual-arm robot, but with only 7–8kg of payload we gave up and instead placed an FR5 collaborative robot on top of an AMR that easily handles 80kg. A single central drive wheel carries even a 70kg adult with ease. We compare it to Unitree's Go2 quadruped robot and explain why we chose the AMR. ✅ A pure-white aluminum "basket" and a RealSense depth cam We fabricated the product basket out of aluminum ourselves and mounted an Intel RealSense depth camera. We even captured the process of spray-painting it pure white and letting it dry for half a day before installation. ✅ Intern Kinam's autonomous-driving algorithm visualization To arrive at exactly the right coordinates and the right angle, we visualized the algorithm at a glance using an AMR simulator. After mapping the office, a simple click-and-drag sets the position and the direction to face (orientation) — and the robot avoids obstacles and stops in precisely that pose. ✅ RF-DETR + SAM unified vision picking Even when products are packed tightly together inside a carton box, we unified the RF-DETR and SAM models to distinguish and segment each one, then capture an accurate point cloud. It's the result of painstaking manual labeling and fine-tuning. ✅ "Bring me the IceBolt" — a robot you command by voice We integrated STT/TTS APIs and combined them with an LLM, so the robot understands spoken commands and picks up and brings the item. It autonomously picks, then transports it to the designated coordinates while avoiding obstacles — fully automatic. PICKR and PACKR are now one set. One Packr paired with several Pickrs: when an order comes in, the Pickrs carry the products and load them onto Packr — a fully automated line we'll tackle in the next video!
