Brahbon: El Cruce entre la Raza Brahman y la Raza Bon - TvAgro por Juan Gonzalo Angel
Twitter @juangangel Synopsis: In this program, we'll learn about a cross between two important Colombian breeds: the Brahman and the Bon, or White-Eared, breed. We'll discuss the care required to keep the animals pest-free. We'll also learn about their diet and the importance of this breed to Colombian livestock. The most notable characteristics of the White-Eared are: white fur, black ears on the inside and outside, and heavily pigmented skin. Calves are born with pink skin, but it gradually turns black due to external stimuli, especially sunlight. The pigmentation process is complete at around 24 months. Also black are: the tips of the horns, the snout, the tongue, the palate, the area around the eyes, the anus, the vulva, the perineum, the scrotum, the udder, the teats, and the limbs, especially the anterior distal third and the hooves (Salazar, 1971). The coat or coat shows some variations in color, length, and distribution: in the "white" or common variety, the white coat predominates and is present in 55% of animals. In the "hairy" variety, the coat is longer and occurs very sporadically. The "two-haired" type has black hairs scattered throughout the body, with black mucous membranes, eyelashes, limbs, and tail tassel. The "blue painted" type is characterized by small black spots, especially on the trunk and forequarters, giving it a grayish-blue, mottled, or sard appearance. It is the predominant type in the departments of Caldas and Huila. The "Blanco Orejimono" is a recessive variety (Salazar, 1971) with reddish ears, pink mucous membranes, and light skin. Its birth rate is estimated at 3 to 4% of births, and farmers believe it is the highest milk-producing type; however, there is no experimental data to corroborate this.
