How I Make A Handle For A Spoon Carving Hook Knife Tool - FULL NARRATED TUTORIAL With PRO TIPS

Hello everyone! Tool maker can be found on Instagram - l.m.zaiga After receiving many requests for tool handling videos - I thought it time to produce a tutorial that will take you through a detailed step-by-step guide to handling your own. What is great about this method, is that it requires just an axe, and a carving knife, a picket saw, a hand drill and a little epoxy to do, making this a really accessible method to making good quality, custom handles, in a traditional crafty way without big machines. This tutorial will guide you though making a 16-facetted knife handle that to me, feels about perfect when I am making spoons. It is nice and grippy for twisting the tool in the palm but also nice and comfortable without sharp edges. Making long gestural facets in wood can be hard, but by tapering a little first and establishing flat planes with the axe first, makes the project a little easier. The carving techniques and grips can also be applied to other craft projects too, such a spoons or spatulas. The knife blade that I handle is made by the very talented Lorenzo Margoni, who is a blade smith who operates from a forge in Northern Italy. He has been making tools for about 5 years now and his tools have become widely popular amongst spoon carvers. I really hope that you like this tutorial and that it answers most questions one might have when it comes to handling their own tools. This is a tutorial for square-tang tools, and handling tools forged from round stock is a lot easier as it docent require the peg method, to purchase either side of the tang. Thank you for watching!
