If You Lived in Dallas in the 1950s & 60s - You Remember This!

In the 1950s and 1960s, Dallas experienced significant events and changes that shaped its history. Many landmarks from this era, like the Baker Hotel, Ambassador Hotel, and the Praetorian Building, have since been demolished. Downtown Dallas was a hub for entertainment, with places like the Colony Club being popular. During this time, the city's population grew rapidly, becoming a major technology center with companies like Texas Instruments. The Dallas Tornado of 1957 left a lasting impact. Elvis Presley performed in Dallas in 1955 at the Sportatorium, which no longer exists. The Texas drought from 1949 to 1957 brought severe hardships, but the rain in 1957 provided some relief. Dallas didn't have professional sports teams in 1950, and the Dallas Texans briefly joined the NFL in 1952. H.L. Hunt, a famous oil tycoon, made Dallas his home. Juanita Craft, a civil rights leader, fought against segregation in the city. Big Tex became a symbol of the Texas State Fair in 1952, and the 1960s brought the opening of Six Flags Over Texas.
