making custom decals for small scale models

Thought I'd share how I create decals from photographs for my 1/48th scale models. I've updated eight small plastic models this way and one 1/16th scale wood model. Since making this video, I've come to realize that, in my case, the limiting factor for decal resolution is the GIMP output file, not the printer. The number of pixels in the output file is fixed. The inkjet printer I use does 4800 DPI when set to best/photo quality with four colors (cyan, magenta, yellow & black) so effectively 4800 DPI/4 colors per printed dot =1200 DPI over ANY size area. But to change the GIMP output file resolution with a fixed number of pixels from: 300 DPI at the default print size of 11 x 8.5 inches to: 1200 DPI the GIMP print size must be reduced to 2.75 x 2.125 inches. That worked! Tools: GIMP (free open source) photo editor v2.10.28 or latest Optionally Powerpoint, Microsoft Office 2013. The decal sizing could alternately be done with GIMP. I was under the impression that the laser printer resolution could be changed from 300 to 1200 DPI but that doesn't appear to be the case.
