This is an introduction to the early model X80 Cresta, which was produced at the height of the bubble economy. The Cresta underwent a full model change in August 1988, but was further improved in August 1989 after tax reform was implemented. This included the addition of a 3000cc 7M engine, some color variations, new 16-inch aluminum wheels for the GT Twin Turbo, the addition of Super Custom Extras, and the addition of the "L specification," a cheaper version of the Super Lucent G supercharger. I drove exactly this grade about 30 years ago. The acceleration felt like increased torque from low speeds, but fuel economy was around 6 kilometers per liter in city driving. However, as is typical of the bubble economy, it was a great car packed full of charm in its unnecessary aspects!
