DENIZENS II — The Triumph of Nature

A large-scale multimedia installation across the land of Castello di Potentino, Seggiano (IT), unveiling the estate’s biodiversity in real-time laser projections and soundscapes. https://lucasgutierrez.com/denizens-ii/ This second iteration of the project features bioacoustic sampling and visual sonifications of Potentino’s rich biodiversity, capturing the frequencies and voices of: Oak and olive trees Orchids, rosemary, and lavender Sangiovese, Pinot Noir, and Alicante grapevines Bats, birds, and the river. This new phase builds a narrative that moves beyond human-centered perspectives. “Denizens” invites us to rethink our place in the natural world — not as overlords, but as co-inhabitants sharing an environment with equal presence and agency. The aim is for the land itself to be felt: an art that allows people to tune into the pulse of the landscape, to listen to its botanical voices, and to experience new forms of this living archive. “Denizens” is not a scientific study; it is an artistic expression of the land. An ongoing exploration merging data, biology, sound, video, and philosophy. In collaboration with Charlotte Horton, Otis Springer, and Phoebe Reid.
