Gazman's Videos presents Tramming at South Crofty Tin Mine.

"Unlocking Cornwall's Rich Mining History: South Crofty Tin Mine Revival 🏭💰 Watch Dave Laity as he is tramming in South Crofty in the 1990's. Journey back in time to the heart of Cornwall, where the South Crofty Mine, nestled between Camborne and Redruth, has witnessed centuries of mining history. What's fascinating is that, initially, this ancient mine didn't chase tin deep underground, but rather sought riches in copper from its shallow workings. Mining traces date as far back as 1592, and by the mid-17th century, the mining legacy was firmly established. Back then, the mine, now known as South Crofty, was called Penhallick Vean. The real mining game-changer arrived in 1710 when Francis Bassett secured a lease for Penhallick Vean and initiated a groundbreaking drainage adit. In the following two decades, these shallow mines, at depths of less than 40 meters (130 feet), unearthed copper of incredible value, catapulting the Bassett family to fortune. However, as the 1770-1780 period saw a flurry of copper mining ventures in Anglesey, most mines around South Crofty had to shut down. Now, fast forward to today, and the excitement is back! Cornish Metals is diligently working to resurrect the South Crofty Tin Mine. They've taken a massive step by powering up the pumps to dewater the workings, reviving this captivating chapter in Cornwall's mining history.
