The Passage du Gois is a 4.2 km submersible road that connects the island of Noirmoutier to the mainland. This passage is accessible at low tide. Its nine markers serve as a refuge for the most daring or unaware who are caught out by rising waters when they fail to follow the instructions posted at the entrance to the passage.
