JACARECI MUNICÍPIO DE CAMACAN BAHIA

Jacareci is a district of Camacán in the state of Bahia, Brazil. Its estimated population in 2014 was 41,133. In the 1970s, this municipality was considered one of the largest cocoa producers, but the witch's broom (Crinipellis perniciosa) plague devastated and destroyed its crops in 1989. Alternatives, such as livestock farming, coffee, and rubber cultivation, have diversified the Camacán economy. However, the main activity remains cocoa farming, through the grafting of pest-resistant cocoa trees, which gradually replace the old, diseased cocoa groves.
