Castilla al ras del suelo: Nájera

Nájera is a municipality in the autonomous community of La Rioja (Castile), crossed by the Najerilla River. Archaeological studies indicate a dense prehistoric occupation of the hills surrounding the present-day city and those within its municipal boundaries, dating back at least to the Bronze Age. During the Iron Age, a continuous process of population concentration is evident, culminating in the emergence of more complex settlements composed of rectangular dwellings partially excavated into the rock, constructed with timber framing and adobe bricks (Cerro Molino). These Celtiberian settlements, which the Roman conquerors encountered and sometimes destroyed, correspond to the Berones people mentioned in classical sources.
