Day 10 in Thailand | Day 6 of the Mae Hong Son Loop Welcome back to the loop! Today, we start our morning in the peaceful district of Mae Sariang. After a cozy breakfast at the Grand Tamarind Hotel, we’re hopping back on the bikes to head toward one of Northern Thailand's most underrated natural wonders: Op Luang National Park. 🏍️ The Ride: Mae Sariang to Op Luang The journey today takes us East along Highway 108. • Distance: Approximately 85 km (53 miles). • Estimated Travel Time: About 1.5 to 2 hours by motorcycle. • The Route: This stretch is beautifully paved and winds through the lush mountains of the Hot District. The curves are sweeping and generally less tight than the Pai-Mae Hong Son section, making for a smooth, scenic cruise. 🌳 Exploring Op Luang National Park Known as the "Grand Canyon of Thailand," Op Luang is where the Mae Chaem River carves through a stunningly narrow limestone gorge. • The Highlight: Don't miss the "Kissing Mountains"—two massive cliffs that lean toward each other across the river. • The Walking Tour: Take the trail across the high suspension bridge (the Two-Cliff Bridge) for a dizzying view of the rapids below. The path continues to prehistoric rock paintings and a Stone Age archaeological site. • Park Review: It is a 10/10 stop for road trippers. It's rarely crowded, very well-maintained, and offers a perfect mix of physical activity and history without being an exhausting "all-day" hike. 🍴 Where to Eat While the park has a basic canteen, the best food is found right outside the park entrance on Highway 108. There are several open-air local restaurants and food stalls. • What to look for: Look for the shops serving Khao Soi or Som Tum (Papaya Salad) with grilled chicken.
