Betriebskantinen in der DDR, 1981 | Qualität beim Mittagessen

In 1981, the Berlin delegates' conference of the SED called for the quality of GDR company canteens and the number of people eating them to be increased. This GDR television report from 1981 sheds light on the situation in the company canteens of the GDR and shows the quality of the food and how satisfied the canteen visitors are with it. Interviews with managers and kitchen staff make it clear that the taste of the dishes - from black pudding with sauerkraut to baked flounder - depended heavily on the skill of the cooks. At the same time, the importance of monitoring compliance with quality standards is emphasized, especially in the preparation of sauces. To improve the efficiency of food distribution, an innovative payment box is presented that is designed to reduce waiting times. The TV report provides a glimpse into the everyday life of the GDR company canteens and shows efforts to improve the food supply. Ultimately, according to the aim, “it's all about beaming faces at lunch... in every company.” Chapter: 0:00 Soup puck 0:10 Report on the company canteen at REW-Treptow, survey of employees about the quality of the food 1:07 “Berliner Metallhütten und Halbzeugwerke” canteen 1:16 KWO: Cooperation community of the 10 companies in Köpenick 3:40 The differences in the food in the Köpenick company canteens 5:53 Berlin Treptow district.
