[INTÉGRALE] L'affaire de Molen : un divorce qui tire à balles réelles

In the dock: Roger Bernard de Molen, a penniless nobleman, tried for a double attempted murder. But behind the facts, this ancient crime reveals an entire era, in its most intimate flaws as well as its most brutal injustices. It all began in 1884, when the Count of Molen married Marthe Chanteaud, the young heiress of a wealthy pharmacist. A brilliant alliance on paper, but based on interests far removed from love. Ruined by years of debauchery and burdened by debt, Roger De Molen saw this marriage as a lifeline. However, their married life quickly turned into a nightmare. Behind the bourgeois facade, tensions erupted. The couple sank into a spiral of resentment and domination. And in 19th-century France, separation was a moral scandal. Divorce, only recently made possible, involved a public inquiry, irrefutable evidence of serious misconduct, and often lasting disgrace. Marital failure was not only judged in private: it became a criminal matter, a judicial reenactment of domestic drama. It is in this context that we attempt to understand the lengths to which a man, humiliated and at the end of his rope, was willing to go. Was it a simple fit of anger? A crime of passion? Or a cold-blooded act, dictated by the fear of losing status, money, and control? This incident is anything but trivial. It raises profound questions about the society of the time, about the weight of appearances, about the role of women, and about the violence we prefer to keep quiet. Through this true story, I invite you to rediscover a series of forgotten crimes, eclipsed by time but revealing the tensions of a changing society. Combining archives, testimonies, and courtroom accounts, this investigation immerses us in one of the most disturbing criminal stories of the late 19th century. A criminal case where image matters more than truth, where justice becomes a spectacle, and where we understand that some murders are not committed simply with a weapon... but sometimes with silence. Ready for this forgotten crime? All the criminal cases I tell you about in Forgotten Crimes are true. Whether a murder, a morality story, crimes, or news stories... all of which have left their mark on history to varying degrees.
