before armageddon: wh40k 10th edition starter set unboxing and review

with 10th edition drawing to a close I aquired the mid teir starter set to take a look at and keep up with my tradition of reviewing a starter set from each edition since 8th (that review is lost to time sadly) though unlike the previous two editions I opted for the mid teir instead of the cheapest teir as it was a much better deal I share my thoughts in the video but in short this set was a good way to bulk out a tyranid army and a space marine army on the cheap especially if you are happy to convert a few models (as my conversions of issue 1 of the partwork mag that used the same models can attest) while the set was a bit on the pricy side and did over all come with less models than the starter set that i got into the hobby with (assault on black reach) this set still had a decent collection of models and was much cheaper than buying them separately though that comes at the cost of a lack of variety of options for all the units in the set. so as a comparison assault on black reach had 45 models and retailed for 150 here in aus where as this box is approaching that count with 38 miniatures but at a price of 172 which kinda sucks that it is more for less but what we get is still a good amount and leaves me curious for what 11th ed will do. of the sculpts the two i take issue with is the winged prime because it's pose makes it harder to prime and paint fully and the psychophage due to the seam running down the center of it though if i used plastic glue the seam might not have been an issue. over all it is a good box though it could do with a soft cover core rules book especially at that price. yes during 10th edition's run the core rules were free to download but a full core rules is a good thing in a game box. they have released a free pdf of the 11th edition ruleset, hopefully they continue the free to download core rules in future editions too! if i can i may yet get more of this set during the early days of 11th both to completed the infernus squad and to further bulk out my tyranids anyway thank you for reading here and watching the video. due to one of the 40k partswork magazines sharing models with this box i have included this in partswork playlists
