Guess Who's Coming to Dinner - Hussein Shikha

HUSSEIN SHIKHA - Resident in MORPHO MORPHO is an organization dedicated to artistic development by creating space for artists and sustainably supporting their work. Hussein Shikha is a multidisciplinary artist, graphic designer, writer and researcher. His work includes experimental film, animation, textiles and interactive installations. Hussein takes the manipulation and transformation of the southern Iraqi carpet (with all its philosophies) as a starting point to understand design from Eastern and non-Eastern perspectives. In this way, he explores possible shifts toward a more inclusive and less Eurocentric perception of design. During his residency, Hussein will research the erasure of handmade Iraqi tapestries and the idea of "beauty" as it relates to Islamic art. Hussein Shikha was born and raised in Iraq. In 2009, he moved to Antwerp, where he currently lives. He holds a master's degree in Fine Arts from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp and a postgraduate degree in Research in Art and Design from Sint Lucas Antwerp. Hussein previously exhibited at iMAL (Brussels), Het Bos (Antwerp) and Kunsthal Extra City (Antwerp) and did residencies at Frans Masereel Centrum (Kasterlee) and Z33 (Hasselt).
