AFTER THE LAST LEAF The Midnight Adderley Quintet Blue Hour Records|BHR-LP-058 A late-night hard bop album inspired by the atmosphere of 1950s jazz records, autumn streets, smoky studios, and the quiet tension between cool restraint and soulful expression. This fictional archive session imagines a small acoustic jazz quintet recorded in 1958: alto saxophone, open trumpet, piano, upright bass, and drums. The music moves between minor-key melancholy, elegant swing, blues feeling, and spacious call-and-response. The opening track, “After The Last Leaf,” carries the mood of autumn leaves, empty city streets, and memories that keep returning. Sparse trumpet phrases leave room for silence, while the alto saxophone answers with warmth, blues, and flowing bebop lines. This is not a cover album.
