In fact, it represented a significant "engine" of the economic recovery we witnessed until 2019. At the same time, it is also one of the sectors most affected by high taxation. As a rule, each beginning of the year has brought bad news for the real estate sector, as the increase in the "tax bill" has been a hallmark of various State Budgets. This year, in a way, we deviated somewhat from this rule, as we see few significant changes. Even so, it is important to be aware of them. In a year heavily marked by the COVID-19 pandemic, it is worth addressing some measures that are still relevant: • Property Transfer Tax (IMT) on the acquisition of Public Limited Companies with real estate in Portugal • Transfer of real estate to partners, shareholders or participants • Exemption from Property Tax (IPTU) for primary and permanent residence • Allocation (and deallocation) of real estate to professional/business activity Therefore, I intend to discuss each of these changes so that you can best prepare your real estate investments in 2021.
