Melastoma dodecandrum (Di Nie) – The “natural Ejiao” of mountain people. Its calcium content is 7 times that of milk. The purple-black fruit will turn your tongue black if eaten fresh. Schefflera heptaphylla (Ya Jiao Mu / Duck-foot Tree) – Leaves shaped like duck feet. It blooms in winter, a key nectar source. Also called “Money Tree” – planted indoors to absorb nicotine and formaldehyde. Caryopteris incana (Lan Xiang Cao) – Natural aromatic herb, smells like mint + camphor + lemon.
