Krise des Bildungswesens #391 | bto – der Ökonomie-Podcast von Dr. Daniel Stelter

The Technical University of Berlin had to urgently vacate its main building – the structure is no longer safe. A study by the UNICEF research institute Innocenti ranks Germany 25th out of 37 wealthy countries in terms of child welfare. In education, it ranks even lower, at 34th. Only 60 percent of 15-year-olds achieve the minimum proficiency levels in reading and mathematics. For those from disadvantaged families, this figure drops to just 46 percent. The city of Munich has announced plans to abolish free kindergarten for all children. A study by the Bertelsmann Foundation in January 2026 revealed that only one in seven German daycare centers has the scientifically recommended staffing levels. Germany's educational landscape is in dire straits. The country, which possesses no significant amount of natural resources and was once an admired nation of education, is allowing its most important asset to deteriorate. Secondary school teacher Jonas Schreiber discusses the situation in schools with Daniel Stelter. Note COLLAPSE – How We Save Germany: the new book by Daniel Stelter.
