The song is in F major with a key change to D minor, and has a 32 bar AABA structure that was very common in the popular music of the 1930s. About this Playalong: The track for you to play along with is two ukuleles performed by myself. The idea is for you to follow the chords and play along with the track, and see if you can keep in rhythm from beginning to the end. As with other play alongs on this channel the red arrow guides you through the chord progression. The Music to Georgia On MY Mind was written by Hoagy Carmichael with lyrics by Stuart Gorell. There have been numerous recordings of the song including a number one by Ray Charles. The song has become a staple of the Jazz repertoire. The form of the song is known as a 32 bar AABA form. This is very common in the standard pop tunes of the day. There is an A part 8 bars in length, and a B part also 8 bars in length. The A part is played twice, then the B part is played once, then a return to play the A part once. This is why it is written AABA, to describe the order of the sequence of parts played. All in all, one cycle of the AABA form adds up to a total of 32 bars length. This can be confusing to follow, as you need to bear in mind how many times you have played each part. Usually the form is cycled round and round, AABA AABA etc... and so in playing the last A of one cycle, and the two As of the next cycle, you are playing three As in a row. The red arrow will be your guide in this case, and in this video the whole sequence is played through twice. The song changes key between F major and D minor, and as is common in music of the day, the chords lead us on a winding journey until we return to the original key. There are lots of chords in this song so it's a great challenge for increasing your chord vocabulary and getting your fingers moving. Work diligently and gradually build up your abilities to play each chord and transition smoothly until you are able to keep up along with the backing track.
