Bad Driving - May 2026

If anyone is aware of a single ticket being given for violating the close-passing law, please let me know. This compilation does not include what would probably be an additional 40+ minutes of footage of drivers not stopping at stop lines, parked/stopped too close to crosswalks or fire hydrants, doing illegal u-turns, using bus lanes, not signalling when turning, and much, much more. I've also included some clips from the first few days of June because I don't intend to make another of these compilations for June or July. Laws should match real-life behaviour. If a law isn't being followed then, depending on the situation (including constraints like budget), we should change the law, enforce the law, and/or redesign the environment. For example, if drivers aren't stopping at a particular stop sign then change the law to allow them to do this (bad idea, yield signs fill this purpose already), put up a camera with automated ticketing (relatively simple, would pay for itself and/or stop the behaviour), or replace the stop sign with a yield sign or with a roundabout (or make the street car-free). Pedestrians not using the right half of the crosswalk? Remove that law (yes, this is a bylaw in several municipalities...). Cyclists treating stop signs as yield signs because studies show that it's safer? Make it legal (several US states have done this). Drivers not giving enough space when passing cyclists? Separated bike lanes. I can't distinguish between drivers who aren't going to stop and are about to accelerate into my path, vs drivers who are going to stop a car-length beyond the stop line. Just stop at the stop line, it's there for a reason and makes it clear that you've seen me and gives me more reaction time if you haven't. 0:00 Disobeying restrictions 0:42 Running red light 2:36 Block intersection/crosswalk/crossride 3:56 Misc. things 4:38 Passing too close 8:01 Parking & Stopping 9:15 Bad turns 9:52 Literring Reminders: It's illegally for a car to use/park in/stop in a bike lane (except to turn right, and only when it's a dashed line). You must give at least 1-1.5m of space when passing cyclists - measured from the extremities, i.e. side mirror to handle bar. If you can safely stop for a yellow light, you must do so. You must stop for a red light. (Even when turning right.) Turn into the nearest (right-most or left-most) lane, unless otherwise marked. Pull over and stop when there are emergency vehicles with sirens. Yield to pedestrians in (marked or unmarked) crosswalks. Don't reverse over a crosswalk or into an intersection. Don't enter an intersection or marked crosswalk unless you know you have space to exit it. Don't park/stop within 5-6m of fire hydrants, crosswalks, and stop signs. In Vancouver, you can essentially only do a reverse turn (u-turn) at roundabouts or dead-end streets.
