📜[Intro] Shaolin Temple is located at the foot of Wuru Peak of Songshan Mountain in Dengfeng City, Zhengzhou City, Henan Province. It is named "Shaolin Temple" because it is located in the dense jungle of Shaoshi Mountain in the hinterland of Songshan Mountain. It is recognized as the birthplace of Zen Buddhism and the birthplace of Shaolin Kungfu. The Shaolin Temple covers an area of approximately 57,600 square meters. The current abbot is Shi Yongxin, the 47th heir of Caodong Zhengzong and 33rd heir of Shamen. At present, Shaolin Temple is a national 5A-level tourist attraction in China. The historical buildings of the temple are known for their great aesthetic value and profound cultural connotation, and have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. 🏺 [History] Shaolin Temple was built in the 19th year of Taihe in the Northern Wei Dynasty in 495. At that time, Emperor Xiaowen Yuanhong was built in order to settle the Indian monk Ba Tuo who came to the dynasty. It was built at the northern foot of Shaoshi Mountain in Songshan facing the capital Luoyang. As the first Shaolin abbot, Batuo devoted himself to translating Buddhist scriptures and to preaching doctrines to hundreds of his followers. In 527, Bodhidharma, the 28th patriarch of Mahayana Buddhism in India, arrived at the Shaolin Temple. Bodhidharma spent nine years meditating in a cave of the Wuru Peak and initiated the Chinese Chan tradition at the Shaolin Temple.
