The Walk - EP 48 - Lost Industries & Uprisings - Lower Hartshay - Derbyshire

Phil and myself are back in our home county of Derbyshire. We're walking a circular route around the sleepy village of Lower Hartshay. An unsuspecting scattering of houses, and a solitary pub, was once the location of multiple industries, and even an uprising against the state. Hartshay sits on the edge of Pentrich, the location of the last armed uprising against the UK government in 1817. Two collieries, two mineral railway lines, a brickworks, a midland railway line, the Cromford canal boasted two wharfs, and it's even dissected by an ancient Roman road. By the late 1940s, all of it was gone, and it became the quiet village it is today.
