Making Latvian Piragi with our tante Ausma (Latviešu Pīrāgi)

This video is of my auntie, originally from Saldus in Latvia showing my sister and I how to make Latvian Pīrāgi. Along with the instructions which you can download in the link below, you can make and enjoy them too! Hi, my name is Vic Ratnieks. I recorded this video about 4 months before my auntie Ausma passed away on 24 August 2014. My mum Rita, Ausma's sister was the chief pīrāg maker in our family making thousands of them every month and selling them around Adelaide, Australia. But my sister Biruta and I never learnt to make them. They were always in abundance. After mum passed away in 2011, we relied on auntie Ausma to be our source of pīrāgi. One day I said to Biruta, we need to learn how to make them, before there's no one left to show us. So we went to her house and learnt. I never intended to make a video from the recordings I made, but it leaves a nice legacy to tante Ausma and to my mother's history of pīrag making. Plus, Biruta and I can now make our own and other members of our family and friends are starting to make them too.
