Kenya VLOG: We Ran the UltraMARAthon in the Maasai Mara

What’s it like to run a 50km race through the Maasai Mara in Kenya? In this special Kenya safari VLOG, we take a different kind of adventure with you — one that isn’t just about wildlife sightings or luxury camps, but about perseverance, purpose, and giving back to the incredible people that make the Mara so special. In this video we document our experience running in the UltraMARAthon, a 50 kilometer foot race through the northern conservancies of the Maasai Mara ecosystem. We run as a team of four in a relay, pushing ourselves physically and mentally while taking in the vast open landscapes of Mara North and Lamek Conservancies. This race was one of the most meaningful and invigorating experiences of our entire trip, and we captured our journey from pre-race nerves to the emotional high of crossing that finish line together. Unlike our previous safari vlogs, this video is focused on the race, the people, and the purpose behind it all. The UltraMARAthon is not just a footrace. It’s a fundraising effort that supports rangers, community health care, education projects, and wildlife conservation across the greater Mara region. Funds raised go directly to initiatives like the Mara Elephant Project, Africa Mission Services health programs, and ranger support within the conservancies. We’re staying at Serian Original Camp, one of the key organizers of this event, and we share what it’s like to be part of this community-led effort. Throughout the vlog we show race day from start to finish, the camaraderie of runners and volunteers, the incredible landscapes we ran through, and the deep sense of purpose that kept us going when the kilometers got tough.
