Add SSB to Any Shortwave Radio – No Modifications, No Wires! #pcbway#
Only $5 for 10 PCBs and every new member get $5 bonus. + Express 24 hour / 48 hour service on https://www.pcbway.com/ ➠ ➠ ➠ Ever wished your vintage shortwave radio could decode Single Sideband (SSB) without complex modifications? In this video, I show you how I designed a Wireless Beat Frequency Oscillator (BFO) that lets you do exactly that — no wires, no soldering to the radio, just pure RF magic! The trick? The BFO radiates wirelessly into the radio’s IF stage, allowing you to fine-tune slightly above or below the IF frequency to resolve SSB transmissions. Powered by an Arduino, the circuit offers precision tuning for any IF frequency — from 455 kHz in most American sets to 460 kHz in many German ones. I ordered the boards from PCBWay, built the prototype, and in this video, I take you through the circuit design, Arduino sketch, and real-world testing — including decoding actual amateur SSB communications live. Stay tuned for the next video where I’ll show how to mount it into an enclosure and share all files — Gerbers, schematics, 3D prints, and Arduino code — so you can easily build your own! 🎥 External BFO - Previous Version: • External BFO. It uses wireless coupling instead of direct electrical connection, making it ideal for restorers and experimenters who don’t want to modify vintage radios. Includes details on PCB design, Arduino programming, IF tuning (455 kHz, 460 kHz), and SSB signal demonstration. Perfect for enthusiasts of ham radio, electronics tinkering, and radio restoration. _____HUNDREDS OF OTHER VIDEOS TO CHOOSE FROM____ DIY TEST GEAR: The title says it all: • Zener Diode Tester - Part 1.
