The roads of Minas Gerais! We documented the condition of the road from the center of Esmeraldas/MG to the village of Urucuia (it appears as Urucaia on maps). It's 16.5 km, mostly unpaved. We traveled through beautiful bucolic landscapes of the Minas Gerais Cerrado and a tranquil – and cold – atmosphere that undoubtedly called for coffee and cheese bread to start the day. Generally, the road remained wide and well-maintained until the Casarão de Santo Antônio – a historical landmark of Esmeraldas, home of the first "Governor" of Minas Gerais. After this stretch, we noticed greater neglect of the road, which, it seems, is quite busy. Not today, of course, as it's Sunday and very early! After a series of bridges, entrances, horses and cattle inside the fences, and caramel-colored and "black" people along the way, we arrived safely. It's the interior of Minas Gerais, you know! But it's right there, about 71km from the Praça da Estação in downtown Belo Horizonte, 17km from downtown Esmeraldas, 55km from downtown Contagem, and 42km from Nova Contagem. Baron of Caeté's House ======================= The historic residence known as Casarão Santo Antônio (or Solar de Santo Antônio) is located on the Santo Antônio Farm, in the Urucuia district, in Esmeraldas, Minas Gerais, about 4 km from the city center. This property, listed by IEPHA in 2004, was the residence of José Teixeira da Fonseca Vasconcelos, the Baron and Viscount of Caeté, the first president of the Province of Minas Gerais.
