New Dublin Voices: It's Strange About Stars by Seán Doherty

This is a gentle, meditative piece, in which the repetitions of the opening words ‘It’s strange about stars’ invite a reflection on their meaning. Lola Ridge makes the stars seem strange indeed: she personifies them, not as the gods of antiquity, but as curious and benevolent singers from distant galaxies. The words begin to dissolve into the sibilant sounds of waves when the poet reaches the words, ‘It washes all over you, and makes you feel cleaner than water’. This baptismal image captures the awe-inspiring feeling that we gain when we consider the immensity and majesty of infinite space, and find ourselves temporarily removed from the mundane concerns of day-to-day life. "It's Strange About Stars" is 1 of 16 track on New Dublin Voices' recently recorded album, 'Snow Dance for the Dead: Choral Music by Seán Doherty', which has just been released TODAY!
