Kayo is already 'a big business': Foxtel CEO
Sports streaming site Kayo is already "a big business" despite only launching just over a year ago, according to Foxtel CEO Patrick Delany. Kayo, which is a sports streaming service owned by Foxtel, reported it had more than 370,000 paying subscribers as of February 5, 2020. Mr Delany told Sky News the success of the streaming service's launch has superseded its rivals - including Foxtel. "Kayo is the most successful media business to have been launched in Australia in the last 25 years, including Foxtel," he said. "Netflix is pretty good but to have 400, 000 paying customers for sports alone at a premium price of 25 bucks, with no tricks, no bells, no whistles is one hell of an achievement. "It's a big business already". Mr Delany denied viewership is stagnating, after the latest figures showed its subscriber numbers had dipped from its high of 402,000 as of November 5, 2019. "It's a sports business," he said. In Australia there are five big sports, four of them end at the end of September, they start tailing off and we go into one sport which is cricket". "So Kayo's number on a pure paid basis will never be bigger at the end of December than it is at the end of September." Image: News Corp Australia
