Rośliny liściasta na balkon i taras - papirus, koleus, hippo czy anielskie skrzydła

What are the most beautiful deciduous plants for balconies and terraces? What compositions can you create with them? That's the topic of today's video from the "Balconies and Terraces" series. Join us! Among the deciduous plants we often grow on balconies and terraces, we often grow ivy. This is a wonderful climber with the added advantage of being evergreen and perennial. In pots, we can also plant ground ivy, which is also a perennial, or plectranthus coleus, a mosquito plant whose scent when crushed repels mosquitoes. Another interesting plant is dichondra, which can have lush green or silvery leaves, which over time create a leafy waterfall. And that's not all. Other wonderful deciduous plants that I often use in my compositions include ipomea, morning glory, and sweet potato. I'll plant it in this pot along with geraniums and coleus. Ipomea has appeared in my compositions many times, as it's a wonderfully complementary plant. It looks great with various species, and the multitude of varieties with different leaf colors and shapes means it fits into any arrangement. Leaves can range from lemon, yellow-green, to burgundy and almost black, to rusty, orange-brown, or chocolate, like this 'Sweetato Bronze' variety. They remain decorative until the first frost, as sweet potato is a thermophilic plant and won't survive frosts in Poland. It may bloom with inconspicuous flowers, but they aren't particularly decorative. It's advisable to prune them to encourage the Ipomea to continue branching and developing new leaves. A similar approach is recommended for Coleus, also known as Brazilian nettle, which also comes in various varieties and has leaves in various colors and shapes. I'll return to this topic in a separate video. They can also bloom with blue inflorescences at the top of the stems. We can allow the plant to do this, but this will stunt its growth. To encourage the emergence of the desired leaves, it's best to cut off the inflorescence. My arrangement will feature a lush yellow-green Coleus, reminiscent of one of the Hypomeas, while the floral accent will be a geranium, contrasting with the intense pink of its beautiful inflorescences. However, the dominant feature will be the beautiful leaves, which rival the geranium flowers in ornamental beauty. An exceptionally interesting ornamental foliage plant is 'Angel Wings,' or silver-leaved ragwort. It has large silver-white foliage and can be planted both in pots and in borders; some people even grow it indoors. It's highly drought-tolerant and thrives in bright locations, but direct, harsh sunlight can sometimes damage the leaves. I'll plant these angel wings surrounded by a Bacopa sutera with white flowers, which will eventually drape over the pot and accentuate the leafy beauty in the center. Another wonderful leafy plant with the cheerful name "hippo" is the "undersleeping" (or "hippo"). Unlike the classic varieties, these are designed for outdoor cultivation and can be safely planted in summer plant arrangements on balconies and terraces. Their characteristic feature is their wonderfully variegated, or rather speckled, leaves. They can be green-white or green-pink, in shades of light or dark pink. I'll plant a hippo with pink-green leaves with a calibrachoa with delicate pink, yellow, and white flowers. As in the previous selection, the flowers will act as a filler, slightly overhanging, emphasizing the unique charm of the dormant area. Speaking of ornamental foliage plants, we shouldn't forget about ornamental grasses, such as the dark, almost black Pennisetum Vertigo, which will be in my next pot. It can grow up to a meter tall and looks wonderful with practically all balcony species. I'll plant it with a begonia and its beautiful bicolored orange-yellow flowers, and I might add a geranium, but this time not one whose main attraction is its flowers, but one also grown for its beautifully colored, rusty-green leaves. This is the 'Vancouver Centennial' variety. It can also bloom and be covered with delicate, intensely orange inflorescences, but it's its leaves that primarily attract attention. They resemble a cranesbill in shape. We can also grow papyrus, an incredibly unique plant, on balconies and terraces... And that's all for today.
