Engine Number one! (CFMI CFM56)

The CFM56 engine is the most widely produced civil aircraft engine. The CFM56 is a robust, extremely reliable turbofan engine that first ran in 1974. Few people know that the high-pressure section of the engine is derived from the General Electric F101, the engine used in the B-1 Lancer. The low-pressure section, on the other hand, is manufactured by Safran Aircraft Engines (formerly SNECMA). With a thrust of up to 34,000 lbf, the engine is ideal for medium-range aircraft. It is also used on the Airbus A340-200/-300, although this was initially a stopgap solution, as a specially developed engine was originally intended for the A340 but never went into production. The engine is available in four versions, each with different throttle settings for specific aircraft types. The CFM56's legacy continues in the CFM LEAP, which was developed from the CFM56.
