ARCHIVE: Season Highlights 1996/1997

Highlights of the 1996/1997 season faithfully compiled by York City fan Paul Bowser and re-mastered by YCTV. The season was a story of ups and downs as Alan Little's City side defeated Everton in the League Cup but were victims of a cup shock themselves, losing to non-league Hednesford Town in the FA Cup. The Football League Division 2 campaign was also a struggle, as City avoided relegation late in the season with a 2-0 win at Milmoor against already-relegated Rotherham United. Leading scorer that season was Neil Tolson with 17 goals, the average home League attendance for The Minstermen this season was 3,359. Clubman of the Year was central defender Tony Barras, the only ever present in the side. Footage courtesy of Yorkshire/Tyne Tees Television and Sky Sports.
