Solo Kayak Camping: Crooked Creek Chickee via Turner River
This link is to my Amazon Store where I do get a commission on purchases, but these are the cheapest links I can find: https://amzn.to/4oOKs0R I took a little solo kayaking camping trip through the Turner River mangrove tunnels in Big Cyprus National Park, Everglades Florida. I camped on the Crooked Creek Chickee (a 12.5-mile paddle from the Turner River Canoe Launch) which was a cool experience, but the gnats were horrible at the Chickee. So bad that they either took away, or added to the adventure, I'm not sure which :). It was a beautiful trip and one that I recommend only to the experienced kayaker, not to the novice. The initial mile or so section of mangrove tunnels (just after the Turner River Canoe launch) would be okay for the inexperienced paddlers though, and that section takes about an hour each way to get through with a picnic table at the turn around. So that would be a great day paddle adventure for anyone in that area. Enjoy the video, it was a challenging trip and one that I will remember forever.
