On Friday, the middle school student was "seen after leaving school in a man's vehicle," according to Clémence Meyer, the public prosecutor of Auch. The man in question, Jérôme B., 41 years old and father of two, is a former maintenance worker whose daughter is a classmate of Lyhanna's in sixth grade. He explained to investigators that he had "dropped the child off at her request by car near the Fleurance swimming pool." But according to the prosecutor, his statements "appeared relatively incoherent and imprecise." On Monday, he was formally charged with kidnapping and false imprisonment and placed in pretrial detention. In August 2025, a rape complaint was filed against him by the mother of a 10-year-old girl. In 2021, he was also the subject of disciplinary proceedings at a high school for overly persistent behavior toward a young girl. According to Le Parisien, in recent months, he had become particularly close to Lyhanna, to the point that the girl's parents had decided to distance themselves from him.
