Modernising to keep Wellington moving
A growing city, and desire to help Wellingtonians jump onto the train for their morning commute needs a service to match. That means more trains on the tracks, more track for trains, and a modern signalling system capable of bringing hundreds of services in and out of Wellington Station every day. There’s lots happening right now to get the region’s rail network ready for more frequent and faster trains. The switch from old to new infrastructure comes with its challenges, and the move from manual to computer-based signalling at Wellington Station earlier this year was a major piece in the upgrade puzzle. For 18 months the team worked night and day to move tracks, add passing loops, install and finally test the new signals before switching from the manual to digital system. We’re super proud of the team, the signalling crew, and our project partners @Downer, @Siemens, @KiwiRail who’ve all been instrumental to the project. See the project story here.
