A Tour of 11 Historic Inns in Eminönü in One Day Büyük Abud Efendi Han Büyük Yıldız Han Diri Han Cemile Sultan Liman Han Muhsin oğlu Han Beta Han Kurukahveci Han Zincirli Han Sağır Han Büyük Valide Han Büyük Yeni Han “In Eminönü, one of the busiest points of Istanbul, there are historic inns that most people pass by without noticing. Today, we will take a journey through time in the streets of Eminönü. I visited 11 inns in one day, and each of these inns carries the traces of trade, craftsmanship, and life from the Ottoman era to the present day. If you are ready, let's enter the hidden world of Eminönü together.” “Inns were the heart of trade during the Ottoman era. Merchants stayed here, goods were stored, and craftsmen opened their shops. Eminönü and its surroundings were the busiest inn district of Istanbul. Today, some are still active, some are quiet, but they all exude history.” “The inn we are in now has been one of the important centers of Istanbul's trade for many years. With its thick stone walls, courtyard, and small shops, it still makes us feel the traces of the past. Today, there are different tradesmen here, but the spirit of the inn is still alive.” “In Eminönü, you take a few steps and one inn ends and another begins. These structures, which seem lost in the crowd, are actually the memory of Istanbul.” “Today we visited 8 inns in Eminönü in one day. These structures, which we may pass by every day without noticing, tell the true story of Istanbul. See you in the next video in another corner of Istanbul.” BETA HAN The World's First Coffeehouse The world's first coffeehouse opened in Istanbul in 1554. Located in Eminönü and currently known as BETA YENİ Han, this was the first coffeehouse. Although it has undergone many name changes and various renovations, it still serves as a coffeehouse. It also houses the world's first coffee museum. Materials used in coffee making at that time and the first coffee roasting oven are also on display. SAĞIR HAN I was very surprised to see the location and route of this cafe, where many local and foreign films and TV series have been filmed. This famous cafe is located in Büyük Valide Han in Eminönü, Istanbul. The caravanserai was built in the 17th century by Kösem Sultan, one of the most powerful women of the Ottoman Empire. Its purpose was to provide income for the Çinili Mosque in Üsküdar. This huge caravanserai with three courtyards has been a meeting point for merchants, caravans, and craftsmen for centuries. It was especially a frequent stop for Iranian merchants. It even contains an Iranian mosque and a caravanserai believed to be from the Byzantine era. Today, a beautiful café is located in a section of the caravanserai, and you can enjoy the magnificent view of Istanbul from there. Until now, only the beautiful side of this place has been reflected in the cameras. This truth behind it was not well known. ZINCIRLI HAN Gold and jewels are made in this caravanserai. Located in the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, the famous Zincirli Han is one of the best-maintained and most popular caravanserais. Zincirli Han was built in 1708 by Nasuh Pasha. It is a single-courtyard, two-story structure. The ground floor houses shops, while the upper floors contain workshops and workspaces. It's particularly famous for its jewelry, gemstone, and craft workshops. Many jewelers and craftspeople still work here today. It's known as the "Chain Inn" because of the chains hanging down from the second floor. Its courtyard, arched stone walls, historic stone floor, and architecture truly evoke a sense of time travel. It's extremely aesthetically pleasing for photos and videos: stone arches, cobblestone floor, courtyard, and historical atmosphere. Ideal for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of the Grand Bazaar and experience history in a calmer atmosphere while shopping or observing. KEMAL SUNAL COFFEE INN I visited the tea house where the 1986 film "YOKSUL" (The Poor), starring Kemal Sunal, was filmed. It's a wonderful feeling to travel back in time, even for a few seconds, in the places where Kemal Sunal appeared.
