Season 2 of Discodelicos is in the full swing of things! This week's session is brought to you by Bobby Cosmos (@bobby_cosmos), bringing 37 minutes of rarities to delight your ears and move your waist! Bobby Cosmos is a longtime record collector, musician, and graphic designer. Born in Corona, California by way of Los Angeles — making his way to the Bay Area in 2002. Since landing in Oakland that same year, he’s been involved in a myriad of DJ parties, design projects and underground live music collectives, founding several DJ nights including "International Freakout A-Gogo," "Teardrop Sunday," "Lower Bottoms Soul & Funk," "Voltage Drop," and "Más Super Cumbias,." He currently plays bass and synthesizer in the Bay Area psychedelic cumbia band Ritmos Tropicosmos, releasing records with Discos Más and Econo Jam Records. He’s also been the graphic designer for Discos Resaca since day one — designing the logo, record labels and most of the album covers since 2019. Yep. Bobby is a jack of all trades, master of the bass, a bonafide musician, which is apparent in this Discodelicos episode via his set! Enjoy! = = = Notes from the director: 1. This episode was recorded amidst the bay area's late summer in October heatwave. Unbeknownst to the whole bay area, it wasn't a climate change phenomenon that had everybody sweating off their underwear. It was the Discodelicos productions that were being filmed, including Bobby's scorcher set. If you didn't know, now you know. 2. The day the set was recorded, we filmed multiple takes of the intro, fully intending for it to be backwards. But because it was so hot out, not a lot of folks were out and about in the mission; no traffic, no people walking around. So in the post, when the clips got reversed, it really simply looked like Bobby was walking into the store normally, as nothing was happening in the background to inform the illusion. In my mind, if this intro was going to be backwards, we were going to have to redo it and REALLY lean into it. I watched Spike Jonze's "Drop" video for The Pharcyde a few times, and that's how the final idea came to be. 3. I wanna thank everyone who came out and played a part in the capture of the intro: Eli Reyes (who threw the rose pedals), Lesli Rodriguez (who was holding the orange smoke bomb), Alex Turk (who, despite one of his arms being in a cast, still handled the business!), Miles Ake (who supervised us all while smoking a cigarette), and Leslie Vorreiter (who threw all the 45s sleeves).
