Emily Hay: Hay There, Who's Opening Your Refrigerator?

When you are the subject of a social experiment, your perception of what is considered ‘fair play’ in the quintessential female/male gender roles changes… Emily Hay was one of the families observed in 2020 & 2021, as she partook in the Fair Play documentary. Produced by Hello Sunshine and based on author Eve Rodsky’s book (who we interviewed in 2023), Fair Play, not only did this experience alter Emily’s familial relationships but the rewards infiltrated into her professional life. This new navigation tool gave her the confirmation that she needed to build a career in social media marketing and prove that it is not just a man’s world anymore. The fluidity of gender roles is now a way of life as equal partnership in any relationship is everything. Having two daughters of her own, Emily wants to teach them that anyone can open a refrigerator and put the food on the table. Be the breadwinner. Share the responsibilities of family life.  As far as Emily’s social media workspace goes, this storyteller has learned to step away from the medium when it is outside of her work scope as it sometimes has a propensity to overwhelm and take over one's personal life. Setting parameters within the digital media world is what keeps her sharp, sane, and professional (something we all can take away from this conversation). Fair play, fair home, fair life.
