Why Do People Troll?
You’ve probably encountered trolling on social media, in comment threads, or maybe even in real life. But have you ever stopped to think about why these people troll? The Internet is the perfect place to be anonymous. Trolls often take advantage of this, provoking and upsetting others while hiding behind an online identity. In doing so, they avoid real-world consequences. Most people are motivated by positive social rewards, meaning that they feel good when they do something nice for others. Giving someone a gift, holding a door, or just complimenting someone can evoke positive feelings. Trolls are motivated by something entirely different. They tend to have higher levels of negative social potency. This means they enjoy making others suffer and the attention that comes along with it. Dishing out insults and provoking others into arguments gives them satisfaction. Watch our video to learn more about trolls and how to deal with them! We hope you enjoy!
