The Oklahoma Traveler in No Man's Land, the Oklahoma Panhandle Parts 1-3, KOTV/Tulsa February, 1997.

It always seemed to me that we in the media, and really, most everyone, ignored the Oklahoma Panhandle... three counties, Beaver, Texas and Cimarron, that hang off the western edge of the state and give it its distinctive frying pan shape. Not too many people live out there. The weather conditions can be harsh. The distances are long. And there's no oceanfront property or soaring mountain ranges. But there is fascinating history, majestic beauty, quiet solitude and fascinating characters. And here's the way I found it... from Autograph Rock, where passing wagon trains stopped to rest and some pioneers carved their names in the rock; to the Black Mesa, the state's highest point, topped with herds of pronghorn antelope and a simple monument that attests that you're looking down on the rest of Oklahoma; to Boise City, which survived a surprising bombing raid from an errant Army Air Force B-17.
