The instructor gives an opening statement for introducing oneself and what to say to the patient, asking them to remove their trousers, socks, and shoes, and to hand over their shoes, and asking if they have any walking aids. The instructor then goes through the examination, including looking for external and internal heel raise, medial arch support, and undue wear pattern of one foot over the other.
