La lengua fuera de sí misma ✍️ Miguel Morey | Walter Benjamin #7

Thu 11.03.2021 Language Outside Itself by Miguel Morey Starting with the text "The Task of the Translator," this session proposes an inquiry into the experience of translating, considered in light of Benjamin's theoretical elaborations on mimetic capacity and profane illumination. __________________________________________________________________ Philosopher, translator, literary critic, collector—these are some of the ways to refer to Walter Benjamin; Romanticism, Marxism, and theology are some of his diverse influences. This very plurality makes it difficult to define him, but it also expresses, above all, the singularity of his work, characterized by its demand for relevance and a highly original, visionary perspective on central phenomena of the contemporary world: capitalism as a religion, the impact of visual forms of expression, the city as a stage, fascism, and the dark side of the Enlightenment. In this course, we will examine some of the key aspects of Benjamin's thought and work, taking a critical approach that will also reveal nuances and less explored themes, allowing us to update his legacy and critically engage with the issues of our own time. #WalterBenjamin #MiguelMorey #BenjaminMorey
