When people think of Sendai, the first things that usually come to mind are gyutan (beef tongue), Matsushima, or simply the largest city in the Tohoku region. But on this trip, I discovered a very different side of Sendai. There were no crowds at famous attractions, no long lines for photo spots, and none of the usual tourist bustle. Instead, I found myself wandering through ancient temples hidden in the mountains, quiet seaside gardens, historic buildings, and peaceful corners where time seemed to slow down. Somewhere along the way, I began to feel a sense of familiarity that was difficult to put into words. And for some reason, it kept reminding me of Kyoto.
