Camping at Starved Rock State Park | Hiking Illinois Canyon

After a long stretch of cold weather, we finally got a small window of warmth—so I decided to book two campsites at Starved Rock State Park and invite some friends for a spontaneous camping trip. We started the day by hitting the trails and hiking toward Illinois Canyon. Along the way we passed some incredible rock formations, caught amazing views of the Illinois River, and even ran into a big group of fellow hikers enjoying the trail. By the time we finished exploring we had hiked about 6 miles through the park before heading back to the cars and making our way to the campground. Setting up camp turned out to be more challenging than expected because the wind was not on our side. Once my tent was up, I helped everyone else get their tents set up so we could finally settle in for the night. After camp was ready, we got a fire going, relaxed for a bit, and I set up my outdoor movie projector so we could end the night watching a movie under the stars.
