Ralph Vaughan Williams - Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis. Sir George Clausen - Paintings.
The Tallis Fantasia came into being as the result of a commission for the Three Choirs Festival of 1910. It is based on a tune by the 16th-century English composer Thomas Tallis, which Vaughan Williams had come across while editing the English Hymnal, published in 1906. It is played here by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Bryden Thomson. The paintings are by the British artist Sir George Clausen.
