Cairo Red Shield - Brisbane City Temple Band

Presented at the 2022 Brisbane 'Bands in the Round' concert in support of Papua New Guinea's ongoing music ministry. Cairo Red Shield - Albert S. Raikes This march was written in memory of the band formed in Cairo, Egypt at the local ‘Red Shield Club’ during WWII. A significant number of Salvation Army bandsman served in this band, with Cairo being the last stop before entering the European and Middle Eastern theatres of war. The trio section contains the hymn ‘Pilgrims’ reminding the listener that in whatever the circumstance, ‘Jesus Shall Conquer’. Yet once again, by God’s abundant mercy, We join our song of thankfulness and praise; Ever the light of our redeemer’s victory Shineth before us in the world’s dark ways. Jesus shall conquer, lift up the strain! Evil shall perish and righteousness shall reign.
